My Glassette

Emma Appleton

For actor Emma Appleton, home is for in-between days. Her home is full of colour and character; designed for late night kitchen parties and slow mornings reading Patrick Melrose, somewhere that always offers comfort.

Many of us have spent more time at home than ever before over the last two years. How has your relationship to home changed in recent times?

Home had always felt like a bit of a stop gap for me, the place to go back to in-between going somewhere else for the next job. When all of that stopped and I moved to a new place right as lockdown started, it gave me time to properly consider the kind of home I wanted to live in. To think about what pictures I wanted to see on the walls everyday or what I wanted the living room to smell like! I feel my home has more of my own identity in it now.

Tell us about a moment in everyday life at home that brings you pure joy…

Getting into bed and reading a few pages of a book. We’ve just redone the bedroom and it’s such a calm, relaxing space.

When you have time off, how do you start your days at home?

I love to sleep in, gradually get up and make a cup of tea whilst replying to emails/messages then go for a walk.

If your home was a fictional character, who would it be and why?

Willy Wonka - because it initially strikes you as quite old fashioned and comfy but as you go in further and explore you find lots of interesting modern touches and quirks. It’s also insanely colourful!

When you’re away from home for work, what are the three things you look forward to most about coming back home?

Having all of my clothes at once! Dinner parties in the kitchen and falling asleep on the sofa in front of a film on a lazy Sunday.
