Mountain Nymph
Regular price£390.00
Original ink drawing on cartridge paper of a Julia Margaret Cameron’s photograph ‘Mountain Nymph’ 1866.
Ruby is continually inspired by Julia Margaret Cameron's evocative depiction of the feminine through the female gaze. Cameron was a photographic visionary and recognised as an artist in her own time, which was almost unheard of the 19th Century.
This ink drawing on cartridge is a tribute to Cameron’s powerful talent and artistic success as a women against all odds. Ruby keeps a much loved book of her photography in her studio and never fails to find awe and joy in the pages of her work.
In this drawing Ruby transcribes the photographic portrait of ‘Mountain Nymph’ 1866 in her own stylised hand, adding gestural lines and pattern work. Ruby and Cameron share many of the same artistic interests in the sacred, maternal and mythology; something Ruby takes great meaning and comfort in.
